Our Society

The Baltimore Ethical Society is a diverse, welcoming Humanist congregation, united by our commitment to “bring out the best in others, thereby bringing out the best in ourselves.”

Our Sunday morning meetings anchor us in community and offer vibrant opportunities to interact. The BES Program Committee attracts excellent, knowledgeable and inspiring speakers. After these thought-provoking presentations, members and guests engage in vigorous discussions with our speakers and each other. These conversations often continue beyond the formal meeting.

In addition, we express our commitment to Humanism and improving our world through the work of our Ethical Action and Caring Committees. We nurture ourselves with activities such as monthly Poetry and Meditation Groups and periodic social events.

Membership is open to all who share our values and choose to support our work, financially and through volunteering. Visitors and guests are always welcome to join us.

We look forward to meeting you.

When it was founded in 1950, the Baltimore Ethical Society was the first racially integrated religious congregation in Baltimore.

The Baltimore Ethical Society strives to be a safe, welcoming community for all members and guests, regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, economic status, creed, age, or disability. We ask that members and guests show respect for one another in their words and actions so that BES may continue to honor the worth and dignity of every human being.

Everyone is welcome to join our activities and our caring ethics-centered community.
