Summer Getaway! Sponsored by the Washington Ethical Society (WES)
Thoroughly enjoyed by several BES members & friends last year. Note
Barbara Blaylock is speaking at BES this Sunday so you can ask her
everything you ever wanted to know about this event.
Friday, June 18 - Sunday June 20, 2004
Get away from the city and suburbs for a wonderful relaxed weekend at
Buffalo Gap Camp, a 200-acre camp nestled in a lovely valley near Capon
Bridge, West Virginia, about a 2-hour drive from Washington. See photos
of the camp at www.buffalogapcamp.com and photos from past getaways in
the photo gallery at www.ethicalsociety.org.
WES members have enjoyed the summer retreat at Buffalo Gap for years
and are now inviting our friends at other Ethical Societies, Cedar Lane
Unitarian Church, Christ Congregational Church, and Machar.
The setting at Buffalo Gap is similar to the summer camp of your
childhood - rustic cabins with single or bunk beds nestled near woods
and a beautiful lake. Most cabins sleep 10, one sleeps 18, two sleep 7,
four sleep 3, and a few sleep 1 or 2. Some cabins have a full bath, some
share baths in a common building, and some have indoor toilets and sinks
with a separate shower house. Every effort will be made to put friends
and compatible families together; lodging is on a first-come,
first-served basis, so sign up early using the attached form. The meals
are delicious, with vegetarian options, served in the spacious dining
hall overlooking the lake.
One evening we'll have a bonfire, weather permitting, and the other
evening we'll make music and boogey in the large wood-floored dance
pavilion. On Saturday, you can tie-dye and fabric paint T-shirts, go on
a nature hike, and enjoy games. On Sunday, we'll do something fun to
celebrate Father's Day and have a colloquy. The kids will love hanging
out on the sandy beach along the small lake and adults may enjoy the
Swedish sauna in the evening.
This fun-filled and relaxing weekend is great for singles, couples, and
families, and a great opportunity to get to know old and new friends. It
is sure to be a weekend to remember!
