I attended the 58th Annual DPI/NGO (Dept. of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations) conference held at the UN this past week. It was attended by almost 1800 representatives from over 600 NGO's. The conference unanimously adopted the following Call to Action at the closing plenary on Friday, 10 September, 2005, to be forwarded to the 170+ world leaders who will be gathering at the UN this coming week for the 2005 World Summit, an unprecedented gathering of heads of state to assess progress toward the Millennium Development Goals <www.un.org/millenniumgoals>, a partnership between developing and developed nations to dramatically improve the living conditions of the world’s poor by 2015.

"We, the hundreds of NGOs meeting at the UN today, urge, at this crucial time in the world's need for security, peace, and development, that you embrace the larger vision of the UN benefit all the people of the world.
We urge you to yield narrow interests, and to comprise with each other, for real change expressed in concrete terms in the 2005 World Summit Outcomes Document.

Please do not squander this important opportunity."

If you can, please try to contact the White House and/or John Bolton, US Ambassador to the UN before Wednesday, to urge them to heed this call to action.

Thanks,
Ron
