Now is the time to sign up for the Washington Ethical Society summer
getaway to be held August 19-21, 2005. That's only three weeks away! WES is again inviting Baltimore Ethical Society folks to join them for a fun and relaxing weekend. BES folks, if you're interested send me an e-mail at peaceethics@comcast.net and I'll forward you the flyer and registration form (it won't go through the list serve).

This year, we have switched the location from Buffalo Gap, West
Virginia to Shepherd's Springs, a location that is closer (only 1.5 hours
away from WES, in Maryland) and offers more comfortable accommodations. If
you prefer, you can choose a private motel-like room with its own bath and
either a double or twin beds in the Lodge. There are some
handicapped-accessible rooms on the first of two floors, and a few
adjoining rooms for families. You can even get your linens (sheets and
towels) provided, for the modest extra charge of $10 per person, in the
Lodge. One child can be accommodated with two adults in a Lodge room on a
fold-away bed at the double room rate, or an adjoining room can be engaged
for children. (Children may not stay in a separate room by themselves
unless it is adjoining.) The Lodge is also where the dining room and
conference rooms are located.

Or you can opt for a more inexpensive cabin in the Village, a 10 minute
walk away, each of which has 6 to 10 bunk beds and a bath. Included in the
modest charge are meals: a total of 6 for the entire weekend from dinner on
Friday through Sunday lunch. Or you can opt to come Saturday morning after
breakfast and stay for only one night through lunch on Sunday, for a total
of four meals. It's even possible to come up for the day if you like, on
Saturday for three meals or Sunday for two, and the pool. All of these
options are given on the registration form that is attached here. If you
want to stay in the Lodge and are hoping to find a roommate, let me know
right away as the time is getting short and the demand for the lodge rooms
is high. I can put you in touch with others who are hoping to share a room.
But this week is the time you need to get your registration forms in to me
to secure your choice of rooms, and next week at the latest, as this
facility requires us to furnish a head count by August 8th. Registrations
after that might not be accepted, and if they are, they may be subject to a
10% surcharge from Shepherd's Springs because it is hard for them to plan
meals without knowing ahead of time how many people to expect.

Please also note that if you bring a child unaccompanied by his own parent
or guardian, you must bring a letter from a parent releasing WES from
responsibility for medical care and giving us permission to seek care if
necessary, with health insurance information. Shepherd's Springs requires this.

Let us know if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

Barbara Blaylock
301-564-1249
b.blaylock@verizon.net

Rich Reis
301-384-0540
rreis@verizon.net
